An artwork “ Worldwide Tokyo-lization Project” composed of a video and an installation. We exhibited it in Venice Biennale 2016.
In “ Worldwide Tokyo-lization Project”, parts possible to exchange in 6 cities that don’t resemble to Tokyo are exchanged into parts found in Tokyo. We studied about whether those are metamorphosed into Tokyo. 6 cities are New York, Paris, Buenos Aires, Copenhagen, La Paz and Venice and, after that Tokyo elements are added, a city that is Tokyo-lized appears.
Through this project, we intended to consider about what the image of a city is and to what locality it is based. The image of a city and the locality might be not so solid that we imagine and be exchanged easily into a different one.
The installation is composed of a 50 inch monitor to reflect a video of 6 cities that are metamorphosing and 6 photo panels of the Tokyo-lized cities and a large wall paper of Tokyo city scenery.
