The competition of the museum for the exhibition on the 2nd world war and
peace. It locates at the hilly district in the sprawled area of Tokyo with rambling impression. In the future. The area was planned to be arranged as a park. The observatory for that was also required.

The building is composed of three parts: museum, pedestrian ways floating on the museum and observatory with linear form.

The first thing I thought was a place as devices for suggesting a spread of the world. The thinking of peace has a relation with the world. I disposed the pedestrian ways of 20 m interval grid parallel to four cardinal points. Those are a metaphor of the latitude and longitude, and were named as the world coordinates. By cutting them off at the boundary line of the site, they receive the impression that the ways are prolonged over the cutting point to the wide world.

The world plaza with circular form was placed in the original point of the museum. The lines drawn on the plaza indicate the distance and direction to the worldwide big cities or the place related to the war and peace.

The second thing I thought was the independence on the energy. One of the causes of the war is the acquisition of resources including an energy source. The museum utilizes at maximum the natural energy acquired in the site. Itfs a posture to peace and it also serves as a manifestation to social problem such as drain of the resources and environmental destruction.

The natural energies are the solar energy generation, wind-power generation, cooling and heating system by the solar water heater and the utilization of the rainwater. 15 years ago I proposed, they have no much interest of the utilization of natural energy.

The architectural elements were designed reflecting the image and scale of the nature since the site would be in the park. These were finished in various colors. As a posture to peace, I chose the possibility of the future than the silent prayer to the passed unhappiness.

A panoramic view of the building. At the top of the museum, which spreads like waves, there is an observatory supported by four cores.

On the roof of the red observatory, there is a solar panel that is integrated in design.

The horizontal building of the museum, the world coordinates of the grid-form pedestrian deck, and the observatory are layered and the architecture appears.
